Samsung Next: Illustrations

In the fall of 2020, I was approached by Samsung Next’s editorial team to produce a series of illustrations for the Smart Fitness issue of their online magazine, Component. This assignment felt particularly timely—COVID-19’s stay-at-home orders had all but ended my gym routine, but birthed new relationships with a Fitbit and YouTube.

We live in an era in which technology has never made it so easy for us to both exercise at home (thank you, Megan Thee Stallion cardio dance routines) and remind us of how badly we’re failing to meet our fitness goals: “On average, you’re walking less this year compared to last year.” Yeah no duh, iPhone.

Each of the following illustrations are intended to depict a different metric like heart rate, step count, or hydrations. These images accompanied a deep dive on how fitness data, devices, and programs are informing and transforming our daily routines.
