Nike Retail Packaging Sustainability Initiative

We worked with the Nike Brand Packaging (NBP) and Retail teams to help launch the first House of Innovation (HOI) retail experiences in NYC, Paris, and Shanghai. We created assets and a fully realized visual language that was used in the retail experience and on the shopping bags. As we delved deeper into the work, we connected with materials teams at Nike and the work coincided with the brand’s sustainability initiative, Move to Zero. The solution for HOI was reusable bags made from recycled materials with a global plan for manufacturing and fulfillment. Moving forward, this work became the blueprint for all differentiated store types. We then started working with the Nike Sustainability Team and manufacturing partners in ongoing work to replace the plastic bags in stores globally, moving closer to Nike’s Zero Waste strategy.
Our work with NBP packaging over the years included shoring up strategies for broader connectivity within Nike. They forged new relationships within the organization, allowing them to collaborate on packaging solutions that would have otherwise fallen “off brand”. This ongoing work also brought in global manufacturing partners for cross-functional coordination to develop and align messaging and run cost efficiencies for packaging solutions worldwide. Leveraging the brand’s Move to Zero promise, we created a solution that would work in all markets, assuring consistent representation and printing for a segmented approach to retail packaging in multiple store types.
