Being Material

Being Material is a publication (book and website) based on a symposium entitled Being Material, presented by The MIT Center for Art, Science & Technology in 2017, exploring relationships between the digital and the material. E Roon Kang and Minkyoung designed both book and web components for the publication and they built a mobile-oriented web publication with Lukas Eigler-Harding, based on Kirby CMS. The website uses computer vision by pattern recognition that responds to the physical book object: when readers move pattern inserts around, it’s detected by the website and creates a multi-sensory interaction. This computer vision component designed and developed by Marcelo Coelho (Machine Learning), Evan Ziporyn (Soundscape), E Roon Kang, and Skylar Tibbits.
