Veritiv's Paper — Event Concept, Identity, Materials, Keepsake Book
In a $10 billion merger Unisource untied with xPedx to form Veritiv, a Fortune 500 company leading paper distribution in North America. On the occasion of Unisource's 25th annual paper show, Vertiv saw this as an opportunity to unveil their new name and to demonstrate their commitment to Chicago corporations and designers. The event was in need of the theme, identity, collateral materials, environmental graphics, and a museum quality keepsake for attendees. My role designer, strategic director, and lead of the project which included not only presenting the work, getting client approval, but designing it with the Creative Director. The concept focused on the Latin definition of Veritiv: Truth, and how truth relates to paper, history, communications, and design. Characteristics of truth drove the design. Truth, at times is black hit on white. Metal pressed into fibers, truth is the whispered impression left behind in crowded rooms. Truth can be coated, exaggerated, embellished—truth too can be rough. Truth cuts and layers demanding a response so one might unveil what is hidden, finding their deeper story. Across the senses, truth is transformative. Drama is explored by way of the deconstruction, and firm handling of our strong contrast custom type. Aptly titled Clair Obscur, drama is held across the light and dark like the chiaroscuro of great cinema.
