Alfa-Beta is the subsidiary of Holland's Ahold Delhaize in Greece. The popular FMCG retailer has an annual revenue of 3.74 billion and 286 stores around the country (2014). However, while competitors were heavily investing in their digital communications and services, AB hadn't yet established its role in this field. Thus, they initiated a long-term, large-scope project with the help of ELTRUN (the e-commerce research lab of Athens University of Economics and Business) to create innovated digital and physical in-store shopping experiences.
ELTRUN's team has an expertise in supply & demand management, collaboration, electronic services, big data analytics and discrete optimization, e-business innovation and interactive marketing.
I worked as an integral part of a small diverse team including an interactive marketing specialist, two big data analytics researchers and two engineers, while occasionally had meetings with some specialists from retailer’s digital team and the university professor who directed the research team. My team's mission was to increase the basket size via the use of innovative digital solutions. I led several design iterations from research to lo-fi prototypes, to information architecture, to requirements, to hi-fi prototypes. Individually I crafted the visual design and assisted with the user research.
