"33" was an exhibition of the works of Russian best type foundries and type designers, part of Serebro Nabora 2015 type conference.
I was invited by Gayane Bagdasaryan, director of the conference, to work on a print design and motion design for the exhibition.
Typefaces created by exhibition participants became a material and inspiration for the series of posters.
33 — number of letters in the Russian alphabet. The idea of the video projection is to show the evolution of Russian letterforms. For that, I took samples from the history of Russian typography. Every chosen piece (early 20th-century magazine page, book cover from 1960-s, 1920-s Avant-Garde advertising, and so on) was recomposed and animated. I’ve also used typefaces created by participants of the exhibition to show modern versions of these letterforms.
