DECONSTRUCTING A SAMBA BAND / 2016.
Casuarina’s 7th album is quite different from their previous albums. The visual communication needed to help deconstruct any pre-conceived notion of the band’s music and break fans expectation right from the get-go.
To help with the deconstruction, there’s no info on the cover. Visual expectations were broken by dividing basic shapes through the use of color, creating entirely new configurations from the most familiar forms. And every possible graphic division in the artwork forms a "7". Instead of a booklet, seven independent cards were created. Song’s titles were intentionally broken incorrectly, playing with perceptions and creating new words that emotionally connect with the songs. At the end, the artwork achieved a lively, vibrant, slightly psychedelic vibe, consistent with Casuarina’s music choices for the album.
