Bond Writing Robots
Bond makes handwritten notes with precision machines to try and build personal relationships at enterprise scale. I was brought on to develop their first series of functional prototypes. Within a year I developed nine production machines that delivered a combined 1,500 notes daily.
The challenge was to design precision machines quickly. Humans are very good at detecting patterns, and any artifacts that gave away that the notes were written by machine detracted substantially from the overall experience of receiving a Bond note. In a short series of prototypes, I developed mechanisms for emulating varied pressure on the pen, speed of writing, and equipment for delivering paper to the machine and getting it back off to be stacked in indexed containers.
