The Puppy Livestream: A Facebook-Connected Dog Feeder

During BuzzFeed's early experiments with Facebook Live Video, we decided to create an interactive segment for BuzzFeed Animals involving an internet connected dog feeder. As we livestreamed a recording of local shelter puppies in the BuzzFeed San Francisco bureau, live viewers anywhere in the world could trigger the dog feeder by commenting, "feed the puppies!" Although we originally intended this to feed the puppies only occasionally, so many viewers commented that the dog feeder became a dog food fountain for a mound of excited, adorable puppies.
