Odersfelt

‘Odersfelt’ is an exhibition designed to honour and celebrate Huddersfield’s rich history in the textile industry while showcasing the town’s vibrant community by showcasing a diverse collection of handmade textile art pieces, done in a variety of different means such as weaving, embroidery, knitting and other methods, all depicting ‘what Huddersfield means to me’.

The exhibition is laid out to replicate cloth hanging over wooden structures, with the collection of art pieces being hung up as if on a clothes line to reflect the subject matter. The name ‘Odersfelt’ is taken from the Doomsday book, and is the first written account of the Town’s name where its recorded how much wool they produced.

The exhibition aims to bridge the gap between past and present, celebrating such a rich heritage while highlighting the still lively community.
