Riparian Tarot | Illustrated Tarot Deck

A riparian zone or riparian area is the interface between land and a river or stream. Riparian is also the proper nomenclature for one of the terrestrial biomes of the Earth.

The Riparian Tarot deck features plants and animals from Colorado’s various riparian zones. My goal was to create a completely unique deck, one that had never been done before and one that held meaning for me personally. I have always been enamored with the wildlife in Colorado, and having grown up in one of its many riparian zones myself I was very familiar with the sorts of animals you could find along the waterways.

I dove into Inktober armed with a spreadsheet that broke down the various Major Arcana, the symbolism typically associated with them, and—after quite a lot of research—what animals and symbolism I wanted to use in my own cards.
