Forest Biltong

Forest Biltong was born during the Lockdown of Summer 2020, when my client, Ed, was considering how to use the wonderful venison, which is a product of the annual, fallow deer cull in Sussex. We set about finding a way to make it super convenient, appealing to eat and downright tasty.
Deer culling is an important part of maintaining the Ashdown Forest. In simple terms, this is because the deer have no natural predators, so left unchecked, they eat the whole forest. Meaning eventually there would be no food left for them, or the other wildlife. Annual, controlled culling means the forest thrives for all of the species living there.
In short, this makes venison about the most ethical meat you can eat, as otherwise it would be a waste product.
Ed needed a strong and bold branding system to stand out both online and at markets in real life.
Ed was keen to represent the deer in the branding. We achieved this with the logo - making an original icon that says "deer" without being generic.

Each flavour got it's own hand-made lino print, which I then turned into patterns for the different flavours.
