The logo & logomark convey an elegant feel, while not feeling too stuckup and luxury. By making the u slanted, we ensured some movement and dynamics into the logo. The arch above the ‘u’ resembles the soft glow of a candle, that warmth that radiates from the wick and the all encompassing smell. At the same time the two legs of the ‘u’ refer back to the fact that Luce has two wicks in their candles.
At the same time, we wanted to ensure that a handcrafted element would shine through the packaging. We got to work, crafting on about 70 different pieces of papers, created different textures, used various mediums from paint to crayons, tried out hundreds of different colors and then narrowed it down to a select few. After handcrafting these elements and physically trying to create designs, we decided to take the virtual route and scan in all of the painted pieces of paper at super high quality. We created digital shapes, overlaid them with the painted sheets of paper and created hundreds, if not more organic and geometric shapes we could use together and collage together into one larger piece - which would then end up being used as a label.
We really wanted the elegance of the logo and the vibrancy, energetics & colors of the labels speak for themselves and kept everything else very simple so it would not interfere with the strength of the logo and labels combined.
