As Dame Products' first in-house illustrator and designer, I was tasked with revamping their branded illustrations on their website and blog, The Horizontal.
"Sexoscopes" reimagines all the 12 horoscope signs, focusing on representing a wide range of bodies, ethnicities, disabilities, and genders. The previous iterations of "Sexoscope" illustrations were more minimal in style and color scheme and unfortunately depicted generic "female" bodies that did not reflect the individual personality traits of each sign.
I expanded the color scheme to leverage more of Dame Products' colors and referenced stock image photo libraries like Broadly's The Gender Spectrum Collection and Getty Image's #ShowUs to have real-life people and bodies be in the illustrations.
In placing the bodies in realistic backgrounds and objects, I want viewers to easily identify with the people depicted-- whether you have been on a subway, lounged on pool floaties, or been surrounded by plants.
Intentional representation begins with referencing reality-- from there, creativity can bloom.
