**The Brilliant Club: Re-designing a user friendly educational platform**
Overview:
The Brilliant Club (TBC) helps underrepresented students access universities in the UK. I was hired to design their website for a funding pitch, and later re-hired in October 2021 to redesign their educational website.
**Problem statement:**
How can we keep students engaged in our program to improve their chances of getting into a top university?
**Users and audience:**
- Younger pupils (11-14 years)
- Older pupils (15-17 years)
- Tutors
- Teachers
**Roles and responsibilities:**
- Developers (front-end and back-end)
- Head of digital
- Project manager
I was in charge of the UX/UI design.
**The scope:**
Build a more inclusive, engaging, and mobile-first version of TBC's educational platform with a gamification approach. Budget constraints led to the creation of an MVP for both students and tutors.
**The process:**
1. Research Analysis and Persona Creation Sessions
2. UI Design and Design System Creation
3. Interaction design
4. User testing
**Outcomes and lessons learned**
User testing feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and the VLE is set to launch by the end of June 2022.
**Things to improve next time**
Involve myself in recruiting testers and allocate more time to user testing sessions. Communicate more clearly with the dev team.
Feedback after implementation
“I have to say that The Hub is already a huge improvement on the old VLE. The students certainly seem to be coping with it much better.I have worked through many different versions of the VLE/Hub and this one seems very intuitive and easy to use.” (Tutor)
“ It is really easy to use and i think it is laid out so that everything is really easy to access ” (Pupil)
“ The hub seems accessible and it is laid out well in useful manner…linking back to what I said earlier, empowers the user. Overall, it is very well laid out and it is amazingly useful.” (Pupil)
