This children's book was born from a love of fantasy books and tabletop role playing games. Inspired by the bestiaries and monster manuals from games such as Dungeons&Dragons and Pathfinder, the goal was to create a unique alphabet book for kids that would also be fun and engaging for geeky parents who love the fantasy and TTRPG genres.
The design and illustration needed to be unique but be reminiscent of the books that inspired it. The other task was to illustrate creatures that are often dark or scary in a way that was true to how they've been depicted historically, while also being just friendly enough to not scare little ones reading the book. Ex. The small smile-like expression on the face of the evil Lich.
The final task was to adjust the color of the final artwork and prepare it for the printer. This took some time as I was looking for the right POD printer to work with, all with different requirements. Some wanted RGB and some CYMK.and each printer having different levels of color saturation upon printing.
