George Nakashima Woodworkers’ ethos is deeply rooted in the tenets of namesake and tradition, and built on a sturdy foundation of homespun legacy and hard won heirloom skill transfer. Now led by George’s daughter Mira, I encouraged the studio to move away from a simple catalog and into a publication describing their process, aided by my long-standing relationship with the client. Working in close collaboration with both Mira and the craftsmen in New Hope, I used traditional book design as a catalyst for documenting the studio’s process and technique, along the way building a handmade book object that itself reflects the unmistakable handmade nature of the Woodworkers’ furniture.
