UniiLanguage

For my senior capstone project, I had the opportunity to work with an amazing team to pursue a project focused on assisting young students learn and maintain a language via a multi-sensory approach.

California is known for being a leader in innovation, but we’re also the leader in illiteracy across the country. In 2019, only 32% of CA fourth-graders tested at or above proficient reading levels, and the pandemic exacerbates this number. Illiteracy is also expensive, and it costs the U.S. $225 billion in Workforce Productivity losses. Additionally, while there are many language learning tools on the market, all of them are too inflexible to use in classrooms, have learning curves that are too high for young students, and fail to place a focus on accessibility.

UniiLanguage is a web-based application designed to help students master primary language and literacy skills through a multisensory, targeted, and fun practice to support independent learning and skill retention. Geared towards use in a classroom setting for elementary school students, but applicable for use between the grades of K-12, the application will serve as an accessory to teachers who wish to incorporate it as part of a language-learning curriculum, or those who simply wish to use it as a practicing and reinforcing tool.
