Nerds Redesign

In 2018 Nestlé sold their confectionary business to Italian candy maker Ferrara. The new owner wanted to explore where to take the brand to expand customer base. Part of the design explore was to figure out which equities were worth keeping and what could change. This Phase 1 design concept took the liberty to reinterpret what a ‘nerd’ should look like. Nerds were the really smart kids in school that has zero fashion sense. They were the geeks, the George McFly’s and the socially awkward. If M&M's could have hyper-realistic, CGI characters why couldn’t Nerds? Challenge: develop an entirely new set of characters to personify these qualities. It was a bit too far for the client. The redesign that did make it to shelf was more conservative and used their current characters.
