Asics Gel Lyte III Kobe Beef 'Second Slice'

A take on the gel Lyte 3, Asics are based in Kobe, Japan so I have taken some inspiration from the world famous Kobe Beef steak. The upper includes the raw tones of a delicious steak, red’s and burgundy’s. The Asics logo situated in the quarter is coloured like the rind that goes through the steak , this also used on the midsole and the two little 4 sided details on the mudgaurd. Of course also features for the lacing.

A part I am really happy with, for several reasons, is the sole. Firstly, how the colour works with the rest of the shoe but importantly the reason for this hue to sit on the bottom of the Gel Lyte III. Notice how the Kobe steak is beautfully presented on a wooden board,
that’s how the Kobe trainer is presented here.

Stitching is a part of the shoe I like take advantage of, it’s an extra feature that can add to the the story behind the sneaker. Here I’ve used a tinted brown colouring to represent the soy sauce that is often used to compliment the taste of the cooked Kobe steak. At first
this soy sauce colourway was only used for the stitch but given it is something that often accompanies the beef and it looks great against the raw red & burgundy, I’ve included it various time like on the dimpled toebox, the quarter (base to the logo, tonal mesh), tongue (plus top line, tonal mesh) and mustache.

I wanted to keep the insoles tidy and minimal whilst keeping the theme. Insole 1 (right) has a perfectly round bit of Kobe steak sitting above the Asics logo.
Insole 2 (left), also has the Asics logo but this time headed up by a Japanese Santoku knife, similar to one that would be used to cut your beef.

Packaging cover features a traditionally dressed chef preparing a steak for his customer(s). The Asics logo in the top left using the rarest colour on the shoe. The side of the boxes bottom layer has a perfectly round Kobe steak (much like Insole 1/right) which is to be glossed and embossed like the rest of the boxing but the steak picture has a subtle drop shadow as an additional.
