Her Video

Her Video maps the line between bodily sensation and defense mechanism. It compares the body's natural response to heartbreak with the commercialized tropes of feminine anguish. Loosely aligned with the first stage of the alchemical process, calcination, it aims to represent the breaking down of egos and letting go of our material presence. The character experiences a metaphorical death and leaves the physical behind in order to move into the next stage of her spiritual transformation. Roland Barthes’ A Lover’s Discourse serves as a point of departure and as such, the video explores the semiotic discourse of one’s romantic feelings towards the Other and the Other’s absence.
