Coming from an immigrant South Asian background, I kept feeling like mainstream media, Hollywood, and advertising would paint my community as a monolith, always leaving behind the most vulnerable or marginalised. I couldn’t see any efforts being made to truly capture the complexity of the South Asian American experience. So I decided to interview 18 people from diverse backgrounds across the US and built an immersive digital storybook.
South Asian Memory Work is a digital storybook on intersecting identities, erasure, and joy in the South Asian diaspora.
This is an ongoing project.
