Scope: 4 Months
Task: Complete hand-painted illustrations for a 20-page children's book that told a fictional Indigenous American story wrapped in non-fictional and historical accuracy.
Execution: The illustrations began with research. I spent a month deep in research educating myself on the High Plains Tribes, specifically the Sioux tribe. Studying traditional clothing, colors, ceremonial assets, tools, living, practices, environment, lifestyle, animal companions, and the horse breeds present. This information helped build the layout of the storyboard which had 3 phases (Rough/Minimal/Final). Through constant communication with the author Rachel Selgado, we were able to stay aligned throughout the creation of the illustrations.
