FAUXSAICS is a technique I learned from taking a class at the Type Directors Club with Nick Misani. It involves photographing a pair of feet, sketching a composition for the floor, drawing and digitally “grouting” each tile, and finally pulling it all together in photoshop to make it look realistic.
This red and blue “ROI” monogram is my first fauxsaic. Sketching to get the right balance between overlapping of the letterforms was the first challenge. The next was to map out the colors and then use Photoshop to create realistic textures and shadows throughout the piece. I created a second fauxsaic for Sylven New York, a sustainable luxury footwear brand.
