AWS Transportation System

Overview: Each fall, Amazon hosts AWS re:Invent, a learning-and-training conference for the cloud computing industry. AWS wanted to release a shuttle-based transportation system to transport over 40,000 attendees between the seven Las Vegas event venues. Role: I designed the MVP transportation back end for Amazon employees to monitor and control the flow of 400 attendee shuttles and routes. Concurrently, I led the release of the transportation epic within the re:Invent iOS and Android mobile apps, where attendees could preview directions and travel times between sessions. Key features included: • Monitoring every shuttle route, from origin to destination. • Searching by shuttle and route. • Rerouting shuttles as needed (due to traffic, accidents, and more). • Triggering alerts to optimize the travel time. My work included discovery, wireframing, detailed annotations, and supporting the visual designer and technical architect in implementation. Outcome: The transportation system for AWS re:Invent was a great success and enabled attendees to make it to more sessions and feel greater satisfaction with the conference offerings.
