Welcome to Winona

Did Winona have to go to Winona to make a website about Winona? No. But yes. For this year’s Super Bowl campaign, we created the homecoming that nobody asked for. Winona Ryder went back to her hometown and namesake to create Welcome To Winona, a photo essay that celebrates the people and small businesses that make Winona, Winona. We sold copies of the photo book on Winona’s site, with 100% of the proceeds benefitting the American Indian College Fund. We also caused quite a stir in a small town. You know you’ve gone viral when news outlets like News 8 Now, WTTC-1 cover your shoot. The Winona Tourism board even made their own Squarespace site: WelcomeToTheRestofWinona.com after the campaign launched. We also gave every small business in Winona a free, one-year subscription.
