From 2012 to 2015, I co-founded a search-and-discovery mobile app for nightlife. The idea stemmed from our own problem of, knowing what we wanted but not being able to search for those keywords together. The solution, allow the user to select: rooftop, pool table and good for groups combined in the same search to find the exact experience they wanted. For businesses, give them a platform to advertise specials and events to potential customers.
As with any small start-up, we all wore a lot of hats. My primary focus was to lead product, my co-founder ran operations and our CTO led a team of 3 engineers. Together, we created our own backend that provided 250+ unique, accurate, searchable keywords and ultimately allowed our users to find exactly what they seeked in any given night.
Although we gained traction with our core customers, and created partnerships with venues, after 3 years of operating we collectively decided to close our doors. This was not without an incredible amount of value and insight gained. Working on this project informed the rest of my career. The skills that I acquired during the creation of Taabs helped me approach problems from multiple perspectives and with various stakeholder concerns in mind. I’m incredibly grateful for everyone that allowed this opportunity to happen.
