Ancho

Ancho is an in-progress display typeface. Originally inspired by the wide shape and robust flavor of the Ancho pepper, a staple of Mexican cuisine. However, as the design process progressed, the forms began to steer away from the culinary inspiration and began to reflect the forms of the country's architecture, specifically the structures created by Mexico's original architects, the native Indians. Ancho is comprised of geometric shapes with quirks inspired by the Teotihuacán pyramids in central Mexico which I grew up visiting with my family.
