Kafka on the Shore

Haruki Murakami’s novel follows a boy as he runs from a prophecy, floating between the world of spirits and the world of reality. The reimagined cover seeks to convey a dreamlike tone, with visual elements that stem from the idea of ambiguity. Vertical, gradated rectangles are either prison bars or slivers of freedom; a fish floats with clouds or over islands; text is both contained and uncontained. A periscope-like circle separates organic shapes from angular ones, another border between two worlds. (personal project)
