The Kiosk of Wonders
The Kiosk of Wonders is a publishing company for independent graphic design projects based in Spain.
The Kiosk of Wonders is based off of the idea of a kiosk, a small commercial stand located in the street that usually sells very distinctive objects; from newspapers, to books, toys, tobacco, chewing gum and more. The design of the website is also inspired by the Cabinet of Curiosities as it aims on creating this one space where different artifacts and ideas can coexist. This experimental website follows the nature of offline spaces and fights against the amount of time we spend online.
Just like a store that opens and closes, a lot of the time the website will be bland in content, meaning that it will be completely blank. During this period, users will only be able to see the next date when the site will be activated. The content will have a life cycle that comes to an end, just like objects do. On the given dates the content will be exposed and then washed away leaving no trace, usually in 24 hours. This gives more freedom for other designs and projects to exist in the platform. When we are navigating online spaces we are usually grabbing information from different sources and looking at different ideas at the same time. Fighting against that, I want my audience to fully absorb one idea at a time. All the action happens in this one page that will look completely different every time, the user can use the four corners to play with the different layers of content. They can decide from a simpler format to a more overcharged arrangement where the site itself becomes one abstract visual picture.
Once the issue is released the site will be deactivated until the next project activates it.
