Aurelio is a typeface inspired by the Roman Trajan Capitals. Aurelio is many things: classic but modern, minimalistic though friendly, eponymous yet anonymous. Its letters are strong and enigmatic. Equal parts hubris and Platonic ideal, Aurelio recalls the past as something greater than it was.
The realization of Aurelio spans a period of 5 years, beginning with intensive preparatory studies of letterforms through a concentrated practice of calligraphy. The final font design is presented in the form of a font specimen, with visuals inspired by relics of Ancient Rome, and text drawn from the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius.
