Carrefour Hypermarkets - Service Design, Web, and App
Carrefour is one of the largest hypermarket chains in the world. It was once the 2nd largest retailer in the world, behind Walmart, but the influx of digital giants such as Amazon and Alibaba has meant that it has begun to fall behind its more customer-centric competitors. As part of a €2.8 billion investment in its digital efforts, and a 5-year plan to overhaul the company by 2022, Carrefour brought us on to help.
ROLE & APPROACH:
I worked with the team in Paris for 5 months across the vision phase and the initial few sprints of the design and build phase to help kick it off. I worked with a creative director and a visual design lead to eventually lead a team of around 12 mid-senior visual and UX designers. The organization was so vast that it had become quite siloed over the years, both in its internal structure and in its digital offering (it had a count of 13 apps in France alone when we joined!), and so our two main tasks were to first bring the organization’s different departments together under one centralized vision, and secondly help define short and long term plans to fix the issues caused by this siloed structure, transforming the end-to-end experience to become more customer-centric.
