Redesigning a historic web app
This client was born out of an in-house need of the parent company that is a logistics major in the country. To supplement their operations, a boutique firm specialising in procurement consultancy was birthed. I was on-boarded as the sole designer to take a look at the company's e-auction platform that has been single-handedly streamlining all the operations for their projects. The web app they showed me was developed on flash, something I heard about for the first time. Before this the only flash-based application I interacted with was Club Penguin on miniclip, and it was a rather fun one. The client expected me to redesign the entire app on latest design patterns, such that it stays relevant for quite few years in the future. I brought the idea of placing the bet on material design (introduced by Google). This enabled them to be able to rapidly develop and replace their existing system of applications, while also leaving scope for healthier redesign iterations that would not affect their operations as well as the technology stack. I gave them what they needed instead of what they wanted. Apart from everything above, I reduced their participant on-boarding time by 60%. Gave them on-the-go accessibility to maximise auction participation. And led to termination of their product walkthrough practice saving 1/3rd of the time from each client project they would take-on from thereafter.
