To the outside world, skateboarders are perceived as dirty kids who like to deface property. In part, this is true, but this stereotype alienates skaters from a lot of the world. While perception has changed over time especially with skateboarding’s upcoming olympic debut, many still don’t understand how skateboarding allows skaters to set goals, make lifelong friends, and achieve dreams. “skrrt” is a self-published digital zine looking at NYC skateboarding from my viewpoint as a photographer. To capture these moments, I’ve chosen to combine 35mm film and HD video footage to create a zine series that looks at the personal side of skating.
