Case Study Video

THE ASSIGNMENT Life insurance is Northwestern Mutual’s bread and butter, and most advisors focus solely on that product without addressing the entirety of a client’s financial picture. We were asked to create a short video that explains the benefits of comprehensive financial planning to an audience of advisors at an annual company conference. THE TEAM This piece was created in close collaboration with an agency called Rare Volume. I was the writer. They provided a CD with a background in visual design as well as talented animators. framed the story, created the narrative arc, and wrote the script. A team of designers at Northwestern Mutual created the UI. We hired an agency to execute the final deliverable. THE PROCESS Provide a Creative Brief to the Agency: This included sections on Background, Audience Information, Assignment, and Desired Impact of the piece. Following initial conversations, we made adjustments to the specifics of the assignment, which is not unusual, especially if the other information is solid and reliable. Write the Script, Let the Visuals Follow: We knew we had to include Northwestern Mutual’s mission statement: To be at the center of our clients’ financial lives. We then discussed the ways in which financial planning can support the mission, and how we could visually execute on that message using the mandatory data points we were given (i.e., growth in sales).
