VMFA - Japanese Tattoo Exhibit
Japanese firemen painted dragons on the backs of their jackets for protection from the flames. For greater protection, the talisman moved from their jackets to their skin. A literal “coat of arms.” This campaign captured the spirit and heritage of this Japanese tradition as well as the hearts and minds of a new generation of museum patrons.
