"1979" Visual Album / Creative Director
"1979" is a nine-song audiovisual album housed in a custom-built handheld LED projector. Crafted from a single block of walnut, the albums' nine songs and videos can be projected anywhere from the portable sculpture. The limited edition of 50 have now sold out but the music, the artifact, and its' rich mythological origin story can be explored via www.1979.la and all digital music services.
A collaboration with composer Deru, we led a small team of engineers, designers, and authors to build a narrative world around themes of memory, nostalgia, and the physical media which immortalizes them. The albums' visuals were created using photos/videos found in local film archives as well as user submissions via the project's website.
Hundreds of fans participated in sharing personal stories about memories represented by their photo and video submissions and "1979" toured as an audiovisual performance of projection, light, and sound at art/tech/music festivals around the world.
