COMPLEX Cover

COMPLEX hired me to conceive, produce, direct and shoot the cover story featuring collaborators Lin-Manuel Miranda and Chance The Rapper for their "Self Made" issue. The brief called for reference to the turn-of-century WPA photographs. I managed and directed the production from soup-to-nuts. Shot at Highline Studios in NYC over the course of a day, my team sourced wardrobe along with the conventional foreground props and rigged them for the practical shoot with the talent. A catalog of props were also photographed for plate work. The backgrounds were retouched with a mix of stock and historical images from the NYC Public archives. Seven final images were delivered for the cover and inside editorial.
