Four Stories

Here’s the thing about stories: a story bears the traits of its teller, and the best stories and the best storytellers weave their audiences into their narratives; which is to say that if you want to tell a good story make it about me, not about you. Good storytellers reach out rather than focusing inward. And provided that you remember to reach out, provided you honor your listener, your story will resonate and live on, and maybe even find its way back to you. This is the premise of the nearly 250-page book designed for Orgel Wealth Management. As more advisors had gone independent pledging of high-touch personalized services, the promise had become ubiquitous and empty. I believed Orgel could reclaim the term and make it stick. He interviewed five Orgel customers and their families at length. He wrote two- to three-thousand-word essays about four.) Photographer Bryce Duffy told stories in pictures. By weaving the stories around each of Orgel’s customers and not talking about Orgel or financial matters the firm was able to demonstrate its unique relationship with each of them. Because this is the gut of it all, isn’t it? Listening, acknowledging the stories of others, reaching out, earning trust. Understanding that it’s the customer that flies or falls on the wings of your stewardship. To finish off the book, I collected personal effects that held special meaning from each Orgel employee. In a section called “Short Stories” I featured them gallery-style accompanied by brief personal endnotes and established parity.
