Environmental Typography

This project was a proposal for an environmental type treatment. A wall would be treated with dots of the same scale, each extruding at different depths depending on the letterforms and where they overlap. The space was lit by traditional lighting but also skylights so the piece would interact with the ever-changing nature of the sun—sometimes it is legible and other times it is simply an texture. This model was created using laser—cutting and hand gluing each 1/8th inch circle in place. It measures 12 in x 24 in, used over 3,500 pieces and caused a lot of blisters on my fingers.
