Irene Adler B/W Illustration

The last in the illustrations to accompany the Sherlock Holmes book cover here is the most notable female character from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories, Irene Adler. I wanted to create a character who was confident, clever and beautiful. Irene’s look is one of inquisitiveness and understanding – she’s got the wit and intelligence to beat Holmes so I wanted to give her an all knowing expression. I painted this grayscale to work more on the tones of the images and then added throw backs to the Holmes book cover and the other illustration of the series – Moriarty.
