This sequence in Similo is a homage to James Cunningham's "All Is Full of Love" music video. This sequence represented the birth of a droid that may or may not have a soul. This is one of those instances in which you get to dissect a master's work in order to attempt to recreate it. This was a full CG sequence made up of mainly close ups of the android's manufacturing process. Every track, robotic arm, and light fixture was meticulously detailed in order to support the extreme close ups achieving a photo-realistic look. Camera angles and focal lengths were deconstructed from a wide range of similar practical photography and depth of fields were diligently zeroed in. The final result was a stunning photo-realistic sequence I will always be proud of. In addition, the only compositing work was to add lens-flares and chromatic aberration, aside of that you are looking at a raw Vray render. The second sequence to this short was and extreme slow motion accident scene. This was achieved with a full CG environment and a series of still photographs of the actor projected onto a CG mesh and then animated to give it a subtle movement. In this sequence it was extremely important that the lighting looked as if it were shot with a high speed camera and a lot of research went into making sure the lighting and focal lengths did just that. This was a great learning experience and exploration of projection techniques. Responsible for: Design, modeling, texturing, shading, lighting, animation, shot direction, rendering.
