At the turn of the century, cycling was the biggest sport and Marshall ‘Major’ Taylor was its biggest star. Also known as The Black Cyclone, Taylor was the first African American world champion, yet no one really knows his story–until now. In 2018, we launched ‘Major’, a Hennessy V.S film that brings light to this incredible man and how his inner drive pushed him deeper into competition with himself.
The campaign also included key visual photography by Jack Davison, a short documentary about Taylor created with ESPN, a bronze statue of Taylor by artist Kadir Nelson, a limited-edition bicycle made in collaboration with Affinity Cycles and a Major Taylor-inspired apparel collection by fashion label Pyer Moss.
Since the launch, Major's been featured in NYTimes' Overlooked obituary series, the custom bike was T Magazine editor's pick and the statue is now on permanent display at the One Tower, in NYC.
