The Wayland

Built in the 1970’s, this 481-unit building in St Petersburg Florida, newly named The Wayland, was the first all-inclusive public housing complex. It’s a multi-tower giant high rise that towers over the surrounding properties like an outdated homage to The Jetsons. The Wayland is projected to reopen sometime next year. I was hired to consult on the interiors, create the branding, marketing and model units for the building. With minimal control over the façade of the building which has elements of tropical art deco we decided to rebrand this as an all-inclusive, Miami beach club, targeted towards students and millennials. After 3 rounds of brand direction the clients chose what’s represented below. The Interior design for the lounge, pool, gym, game room and courtyard is being created executed by the architecture firm Meshberg Group, with whom I have worked with quite closely on many projects. I will complete model units based on mood-boards shown below.
