Manhattan Criminal Court

Zago worked with Center for Court Innovation to help redesign the experience at Manhattan Criminal Court, located on 100 Centre Street. The project aims to transform the built environment of the courthouse in order to communicate; respect, understanding, and neutrality - which are core tenets of procedural justice. Procedural justice is a proven approach to criminal justice that increases public safety and reduces incarceration. It is based on the idea that criminal justice is most effective when the system demonstrates fairness and legitimacy to the public. This approach is reflected in the clear design language used on the signage throughout the building. The signs tell visitors key information they will need and clear directional signs guide them to where they need to go.
