Who started Taco Del Mar? My high school math teacher's brothers. (Stay with me.) In addition to winning my teacher serious cool points, this random bit of trivia also made me uniquely qualified to work on all things taco-related. Some even say it was the x-factor that helped us win the pitch. (Shout out to Mr. Schmidt's 5th period calculus.) Our challenge: To resurrect a brand that once thrived, but is now overshadowed by the likes of Chipotle and Qdoba. Our solution: We overhauled their media plan, putting an emphasis on social and smartly placed broadcast spots. Then, we set about bringing the Taco of the Sea story to life. Literally. Results: In addition to the overall win of weirding people out while shooting tacos on yoga mats at the beach, we also picked up a win as the Internet Advertising Competition's Best Restaurant Social Media Campaign of 2017. Thanks to our sentient taco, store traffic increased, winter revenue rose and site traffic doubled.
